Laurie Aldrich is president of the Virginia Retail Merchants Association headquartered in Richmond, Virginia .
As president, she represents 5,400 retail ers and other associated businesses from across the Commonwealth and their mission and objectives. Aldrich serves as the chief lobbyist advocating and communicating VRMA's legislative policy to members of the Virginia General Assembly and serves as a liaison between the retail community and our state legislators as well as our congressional delegation.
Aldrich was appointed president by the VRMA board of directors in August of 2002. In her capacity as president, the Association has seen significant increases in membership, increases in revenue, more participation in member service programs and better attendance at association events and meetings.
Aldrich serves on a task force of the Virginia Crime Commission to study the impact of illegal immigration on Virginia's criminal justice system. She serves on the Business and Industry sub panel of the Secure the Commonwealth task force to look at emergency preparedness and has a seat in the Emergency Operations Center. She has served on numerous coalitions looking at unemployment compensation, workers compensation and environmental issues including working groups looking at food, cardboard and electronics recycling. In addition, she serves as a member of the retail advisory group for special supplemental food program for women, infants and children also known as WIC. Previously, Aldrich served on Attorney General Kilgore's Identity Theft Task Force.
Prior to her appointment as the association's president, Aldrich served as vice president and director of membership for VRMA. She was responsible for membership recruitment and retention, event planning and served as a lobbyist for the Association.
