Legislative Representation
Lobbying is a Core Focus for VRMA
It is our lobbyists’ job to learn about retailers’ concerns and to present those concerns to each legislator in the General Assembly. The lobbyists attend hundreds of committee meetings during the legislative session, just as legislators do. Occasionally, our lobbyists engage in “grassroots lobbying,” by asking association members to contact their legislators on particular issues.
The staff not only works to ensure the passage of positive legislation and the defeat of laws that impede retail operations, they also make sure that what happens in Richmond is translated to members in a way that is understandable to the reader and of operational value.
Meet VRMA’s Government Relations Staff
For more than a century VRMA has served as a liason between lawmakers and the merchants in their home districts. VRMA’s lobbying team understands the issues that are important to store owners. Many legislators call on VRMA to provide information, perspective and feedback on legislation and regulations that impact retail merchants.
Because of the number of retail trade lines VRMA represents, you will likely not find another trade association that is touched by such a diverse set of legislative issues.
